Fertilize wisely

As clearly illustrated by the picture, maize can only take up a minimum amount of nutrients in its early developmental stage, so a significant amount of fertiliser applied early (at the same time as sowing) can leach out of the soil without being used.

With today’s fertiliser prices, it pays to think about when and what fertiliser to apply. The best way to reduce the risk is to provide easily absorbable nutrients at the right time.

Don't wait for the rain!

The way fertiliser is applied has a big influence on its utilisation. Air temperatures of 30 degrees Celsius are not uncommon late in the spring, the crop is not providing shade to the soil yet, and applying fertiliser using a field sprayer with a hose-delivery system or a row cultivator at a depth of a few centmetres is very dangerous because of the warm soil, as liquid or granular fertiliser can easily evaporate from the upper layers of the warm soil.

The application of solid fertiliser with a cultivator, coupled with the low rainfall of the last few years, is the most dangerous because there is a high chance of finding the fertiliser particles intact even at harvest.

Maize can grow very rapidly after the V8 stage of development.
Because of its rapid growth, it requires large amounts of nitrogen at this stage.

With the NorAn N-MAX Fertiliser Injector, you’ll be able to apply fertiliser exactly when and where your plants need it most.

Granular fertilisers do not become absorbable as long as they do not get wet, which is why more and more farms are switching to liquid fertilisers.
This allows the maize to use more nitrogen, less of which will evaporate into the air and leach into the groundwater.

The end result will be higher yields at the same fertiliser cost.

Precision application for optimal development

The system is pressurised by a 115 l/min Annovi Reverberi diaphragm pump, which can fill the machine’s 1100 litre plastic tank in 10 minutes by self-priming.
Precise control is achieved thanks to Arag valves and flow meter, and the dose per hectare can be freely selected within a wide range.
In the standard setup, the GPS-based wireless ride control is provided by an Android tablet, which changes the pressure value according to the speed of travel, which guarantees that the dose set is maintained.
So, the speed of the machine does not affect the l/ha quantity applied, and the NorAn N-MAX injector also features automatic shut-off during turns, making the operator’s job easier.
The machine can also be used for differential application of liquid fertiliser with ISOBUS control, in which case the NorAn N-MAX liquid fertiliser injector can be controlled from the power machine’s own monitor.

Unique concept

The 6; 8 or 12-row suspended, robust unit is equipped with a hydraulically closing frame.
On the 150x150x8 mm S355 steel hollow section main beam, the injection units are fixed to the rails with wedge-locks for on-demand adjustment, allowing virtually any row spacing to be easily achieved.
A series of large, corrugated-edge, spring-loaded, high quality Italian disc blades cut and chop stalk residue and open the top layer of soil to facilitate the work of the Hardox steel injection knife that runs in line with the blade.
The liquid fertiliser is carried down the acid-proof steel tube behind the blade to the depth set by the depth wheels.
Thanks to a careful design, the NorAn N-MAX liquid fertiliser injector has a transport width of no more than 3 m thanks to its unique hydraulic folding system, which allows safe transport on public roads.

Extra high frame structure

The N-MAX liquid fertiliser injector chassis is designed to cope with as many applications as possible.
Therefore, NorAn’s injector can be used at any time from the plant’s leaf stage up to a height of 130-140 cm.
With a frame height of 85 cm, you can be sure that if you can drive your tractor into the crop without causing damage, the N-MAX injector will not break your plants.

Are you unique?

We have no problem with that, either!
The coulters are suspended on the N-MAX liquid grouting frame structure by means of a specially designed wedge-lock.
Thanks to this unique suspension, the injection sections can be set anywhere along the full working width, with no problem at 45-50-55 and 75 cm row spacing.

The universal solution is the NorAn N-MAX SP, where the tankless injector is mounted at the rear and a full-size front tank – the NorAn Multitank – at the front of the tractor ensures precise dosing of liquid fertiliser.
During the rest of the year, you can also use your tank to apply bacterial fertiliser, for example when ploughing.

If field performance is the primary concern when applying nutrients, the NorAn N-MAX DT system is the best choice. This line consists of a liquid fertiliser injector with a dosing system and a tank, and an additional front tank. The front tank is equipped with an automatic refill system that continuously monitors the fluid level in the rear tank and starts pumping the fluid in the front tank backwards after reaching a certain level. The biggest advantage of the N-MAX DT is therefore that you can minimise the time spent on refuelling and apply up to 2,200 litres of fertiliser in one pass. (At 150l/ha, this means nearly 15 ha of land fertilised.)

    In this case, there is no need for a PTO drive, the pump is driven by hydraulic oil, which allows the engine of the power machine to run at lower RPM, resulting in fuel savings.

    Visual flow indicator

    The visual flow indicator consists of transparent plastic tubes mounted on the tractor side of the injector. Each of the plastic tubes contains a red ball. During work, if fertiliser is being applied, the ball floats. If there is a blockage or spraying is stopped, the ball will sit at the bottom of the pipe. This add-on enables quick error detection.

    It is possible to apply almost any liquid that is not too viscous.
    The system is primarily designed for liquid fertiliser, but it can also be used to apply compost tea or even liquid NPK with a slightly higher density without any problems.

    When applying nutrients, the type of fertiliser and the application technology are of great importance, but timing should not be disregarded, either.
    The biggest risk is applying fertiliser at a time when there are no living plants in the area.
    Such cases include large amounts of nitrogen fertiliser applied and worked in before sowing, or applied by the seed drill alongside the row, which might be washed in by a heavy rainfall so deep that the roots of your crop can no longer reach it.

    It is better to apply a quick-absorption liquid fertiliser when the plants are able to use it.
    The total amount you want to apply should be divided into several parts to minimise the risk.

    The first dose – in the case of maize – should be injected next to the row when the plants have 8 leaves, and the second dose when the tractor can just about enter the crop field without damaging the crop.

    The injected liquid fertiliser will start to have a positive effect within a few days even if there is no rain, which is guaranteed to show on your plants.

    Unlike other manufacturers, NorAn’s engineers place great emphasis on user-friendly operation, so instead of the commonly used fixed-bore dosing blade, they have incorporated a modern variable-dose dosing unit.
    A fixed-bore dosing blade, has a setting range of 30-40 l/ha or 2-3 km/h, which would limit the use of application proportional with speed.
    The NorAn N-MAX injector is equipped with a US Teejet variable-dose dosing unit.
    This solution allows for setting a range of up to 100 l/ha or 7-8 km/h without changing the nozzle, thanks to the rubber valve in the dosing units, the opening of which increases with pressure, allowing very wide setting parameters.

    The depth of injection and the distance from the row should be chosen so as not to cause any damage to the crop.
    Many years of experience have shown that liquid fertiliser applied at a distance of 17 cm from the row works best.
    The depth of the injection should be set so that the fertiliser is always applied to the moist soil layer, because this guarantees that the nutrient will be able to exert its positive effect even in periods without rainfall.
